In manufacturing environments, lubricants are exposed to a wide variety of chemicals and materials, including metals, plastics, elastomers, seals, organic compounds and even other lubricants. It’s challenging to find a safe solution that maintains its lubricating properties, without damaging surrounding components. *The unique chemistry and chemical inertness of PFPE lubricants reduces the concern of compatibility, as they do not react to most as chemicals or materials. *Chemical Compatibility *PFPEs, such as Krytox™ lubricants, are safe to use with more than 100 different chemicals—including boiling sulfuric acid—and can withstand steam and moisture without degradation. In a gaseous oxygen test (British Specification 3N 100), PFPEs did not ignite, despite temperatures of 400 °C (752 °F). In fact, they are 100% nonflammable and will not burn—even in 100% liquid or gaseous oxygen. *Material Compatibility *From ABS to nylon, Krytox™ lubricants are compatible with most common plastics and elastomers. Similarly, Krytox™ lubricants have no adverse effects on metals up to 288 °C (550 °F) and remain safe to use above that temperature with alloy steels, stainless steels, titanium alloy, nickel alloy and cobalt alloy. *Safety Through Compatibility *Even with these extreme capabilities, PFPE lubricants are completely safe to handle. In fact, comparing the SDS of Krytox™ lubricants to the SDS of white sugar, sugar is more dangerous. This unique combination enables PFPE greases and oils to outlast and outperform traditional synthetic and hydrocarbon products.
