Learn about our commitment
to responsible chemistry

Empowering our customers with sustainable practices and products

At Chemours, our purpose is to help create a more colorful, capable, and cleaner world through the power of chemistry. In 2018 we released our first corporate responsibility commitment (CRC) report which included 10 bold goals to bring responsible chemistry to life by 2030. These goals serve to unite and inspire our workforce to meet the world's growing demand for safer, more sustainable products.

The Ti-PureTM brand's commitment to responsible chemistry

Chemours is one of the world's largest producers of titanium dioxide (TiO2). Ti-PureTM TiO2 is used in a variety of applications in the coatings, plastics, and laminates industries. Our products and experts are driving sustainability in a variety of ways, including:

  • Ti-Pure™ TS-6300, a high-opacity pigment used in paints that can cover and protect surfaces in fewer coats, reduces the amount of materials used and waste generated. This pigment effectiveness drives material efficiency across all paint components, including binders, additives, packaging, and water.

Beyond decreased material resources, there is also a substantial estimated reduction in CO2 equivalent (CO2e) emissions from the production of all paint components during extraction, refining (including energy-intensive processes such as cracking and distillations), and chemical manufacturing. What's more, this number does not even include the avoided CO2e emissions for distribution transport and packaging (including the highly energy intensive steel-making process). Based on this, a very rough estimate is that TS-6300 could reduce millions of tons of CO2e emissions annually.

  • Ti-Pure™ R-104, a benchmark grade for film and sheet processing, was recently certified as the only TiO2 in the industry to be certified for use in compostable resins by DIN CERTCO, an internationally recognized, independent certification body. With this certification, our customers can be assured of using Ti-Pure™ R-104 as an approved, harmless additive to the composting process.

  • Global Recycling Initiative: Our Titanium Technologies business is also leading a titanium dioxide recycling initiative: Remove2Reclaim. In this three-year project, we are leading a team of industrial and research partners to recover TiO2 from plastic end-use products so that it can be reused in other plastic applications without sacrificing quality or performance. Reusing TiO2 reduces the energy used and waste generated compared to creating new TiO2. It also reduces strain on the demand for raw materials and mining. Chemours is the only titanium dioxide producer involved in the project.
Our focus on sustainable offerings

Chemours and the Ti-Pure™ brand are committed leading the industry in sustainable practices and products. In fact, we recently received the 2021 Sustainability Leadership Award from the American Chemistry Council for our contributions to product safety, innovation, and transparency.
