We expanded our Safety Obsession value to be holistic, incorporating both psychological and physical well-being.

Diesel forklifts were converted to electric. Fire pumps are now tested without water consumption, in order to eliminate unnecessary fuel consumption.

Electricity is now supplied by a green energy contract, and we use wind power from the EU to power our site. Natural gas is CO₂ offset by a high standard of certification. We anticipate lowering the “real” CO₂ exhaust from the site by looking for options to feed heat into the hot water circuit through renewable technologies.

Each year, Dordrecht uses 400 kilotons of steam generated by the adjacent waste incineration company to power its operations. This saves 63,000 tons of CO₂ emissions annually.

Switching from steam to hot water for heating allows new renewable sources of energy to be coupled to the circuit in the future, while also unburdening the site’s natural gas boilers.

As of March 2022, employees work in a new sustainable and responsible environment. “The Hive” campus in Meyrin has been illuminated by solar-powered LED lights since 2019. The solar cells collect the sun’s energy during the day. It is stored in a battery and released autonomously at night via LED lamps, each fitted with its own control panel. This saves 1,118 kWh of electricity and 30.2 kg of CO₂ emissions every year.

An ongoing measurement campaign continually reviews our FOC emissions in the air and water. A new water treatment system will start in November 2022 to reduce our water emissions (AOX, COD), including FOCs, by 95% to 99%. In the same way, we are working on air emissions.

Up until 2020, all our process water (including fluorinated wastewater) was treated in a contracted wastewater treatment station. As of May 2020, all our process wastewater is captured and treated through high-temperature incineration.

Dordrecht has achieved Chemours’ goal to reduce the discharge and emissions of the GenX substances used in the production process by at least 99% across the board.

These facilitate the creation of free chlorine to disinfect water. This helps meet UN SDG 6.1, enabling the world’s underserved populations to have access to safe and affordable drinking water.

Our lubricants contribute to UN SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-Being) by sealing COVID-19 test kits so that unwanted bacterial growth doesn’t affect the accuracy of test results.

These help to meet UN SDG 9 (Innovation, Industry, and Infrastructure) for sustainable cities and UN SDG 11 (Sustainable Communities) in the form of rugged, resilient coatings that protect sensitive wires and communications infrastructure, such as 5G networks.

Our titanium dioxide contributes to UN SDG 11 (Sustainable Communities) by being a key ingredient in white rooftop coatings that reflect ultraviolet radiation, helping to lower building cooling costs.

In 2020, Shepherd Chemical Company, Clean Harbors, and DSV Panalpina were all awarded for their length of partnership and greater-than-15% improvement.
